Fire destroys Plum Grove home

A home in Plum Grove was destroyed by fire Monday in the Bellavista Subdivision.

A Plum Grove area family lost nearly everything they own Monday when a fire destroyed their home in the Bellavista Subdivision.

According to Plum Grove Fire Chief Chris Loftin, one of the family’s children was home at the time the fire broke out in the master bedroom and was able to flee the house with the family’s pets as fire began to engulf the home.

The fire was first reported at around 2 p.m. Firefighters from Plum Grove, Tarkington, Cleveland and East Montgomery County battled the blaze for three hours before clearing the scene. By then, all that remained of the family’s mobile home was charred debris and a metal frame.

The fire department is overseeing a collection drive to help the family of six with some of their most basic needs — clothing for every family member and school supplies for their children. Loftin said one person has already donated backpacks and some school supplies.

Donations can be brought to Plum Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 7733 FM 1010 in Plum Grove. The station phone number is 281-689-8775. A secondary point of contact is Crystal Autrey at 281-622-7272.
