Edith Alene Smith

Edith Alene Smith, 90, of Liberty passed away August 8, 2018 in Baytown, Texas. She was born October 14, 1927 in Vidor, Texas to parents Thomas Quitman Martin, Sr. and Ollie Alene Curtis Martin.

Services for Edith will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2018 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday evening at Pace-Stancil. Private interment will be at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.

Edith grew up in Liberty, graduating from Liberty High School. She and late husband Wiley Smith married in 1951. They originated the Illustrated Press and the Liberty Gazette in 1960 where she worked until recently.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wiley Smith, Jr.; son, Russell Lloyd Smith; sister, Marcelle Durbin; brothers, Duncan Martin, Thomas Quinton Martin, Jr. and Nelson Seeber, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Smith, owner and publisher of the Gazette; three grandsons, Matt Kuslich, Jim Kuslich, and Lars Kuslich; sister-in-law, Ione Martin of Madisonville; also numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
