Many bull riders have been spared the wrath of a bull during rodeo events because of bull fighters – a courageous, and some would say foolhardy, group of people who draw attention onto themselves and away from the cowboys.
This photo essay, with photos provided by Angel Rick Leal from the Trinity Valley Exposition Rodeo in Liberty on Friday, shows the serious athleticism required to fight bulls. Many of today’s bull fighters wear bright-colored, loose-fitting clothing that covers armored belts they wear to protect against goring, but as the photos can attest, it is still a dangerous sport.
