Liberty Police Chief Thomas Claunch is on paid administrative leave, according to Liberty City Manager Tom Warner.

A decision regarding his employment with the city is expected to be made by the end of next week.

“It will be discussed in executive session with the city council,” said Warner. “It’s for informational purposes. The decision about his employment will be made by me as city manager.”

As this is an employment matter, Warner could not comment on what led to Claunch being placed on administrative leave.

Assistant Chief Gary Martin is serving as the interim chief and handling the day-to-day operation of the police department.
