If you plan to shop at Walmart or another chain store, or are hoping to buy a new car, ATV or truck, the message is the same: shop local.

“If you shop local, the money stays in the community. Every dollar spent in the community is reused seven times,” said Jim Carson, chief operating officer for Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce. “Every month, the Texas State Comptroller cuts a check to cities for a percentage of the sales tax collected at retail stores in their area.  All of that helps offset the costs of property taxes for residents.”
