A 26-year-old woman, Haley Moody, was arrested Monday, Jan. 8, after reportedly leading police on a chase by vehicle and foot.
The chase began after Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 17900 block of US 59 in New Caney in reference to a vehicle theft.
“When deputies arrived at the residence, the victim stated the female suspect asked him for a cigarette like she has done in the past. The victim then walked away, and before entering a building, turned and saw the suspect driving away in the victim’s vehicle,” according to a report from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
While deputies were at the residence, the victim reportedly received a phone call from their spouse who had spotted the stolen vehicle and was following it.
“The victim allowed the deputy to take their phone for communication purposes to locate the vehicle,” the report states.
When the deputy located the vehicle, a short chase ensued. The suspect in the stolen vehicle fled the vehicle and ran away on foot.
“A thorough search of the area was completed, but the suspect could not be located. A short time later, the deputy received another call for service about a suspicious person in the area of where the search was conducted,” the report states.
The deputy responded to the call and located Moody. She was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Evading Arrest or Detention in a Vehicle, and then booked into the Montgomery County jail.
