Dollar General at the intersection of SH 321 and SH 105 in Tarkington will reopen for business in early summer, according to a spokesperson at the company’s headquarters in Tennessee.
On Aug. 12, 2018, a fire erupted in a rear section of the store, causing extensive structural, smoke and water damage before it was extinguished. The store has remained close since that time.
“Following the damage to our store in Cleveland last summer, we are excited to share that we anticipate construction to rebuild the 22880 Highway 321 location in Cleveland, Texas, to begin in the coming weeks,” the spokesperson said.
A grand opening is being planned for early summer 2019. However, the pace of construction may alter the date, the spokesperson said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Liberty County Fire Marshal Bill Hergemueller.
“The case is still being investigated by the state fire marshal’s office and the ATF,” Hergemueller said. “They haven’t announced a ruling.”
