Man arrested for aggravated assault of public servant in Montgomery County

Russell Patrick Richards, 35, of Houston, was arrested for Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant around 2:11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in Montgomery County.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers stopped Richards for a traffic violation on Feb. 13, at approximately 10 p.m. on IH-45 southbound, north of SH 242.  During the traffic stop, Richards reportedly drove away, dragging the trooper several feet. 

After a four-hour manhunt, Richards was apprehended in a wooded area near Wellman Rd. and Tuscany Woods Dr.

The trooper was transported to the Conroe Regional Medical where he was treated for minor injuries, and later released.

This is an active investigation, and there is no additional information available for release at this time.
