Roger Dale Owens, Sr.

Roger Dale Owens, Sr., 68, of Crosby, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 in Baytown, Texas. He was born on June 14, 1950 in Knifley, Kentucky to Elvis and Virgie Price Owens. Roger graduated from Montgomery High School in 1968 where he played quarterback on their football team. After graduation, he attended Purdue University before joining the military. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He became an MP for the Army while serving.

Roger a hard worker and always very driven. He worked as a truck driver for many years and most recently for Honey Solutions out of Baytown for more than 10 years.

Roger was also affectionately known as “Pappy” or “Homer” to many. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Pappy enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always a very social man, who could talk to anyone and never meeting a stranger. Pappy was an avid Purdue fan and he enjoyed watching NFL football. He pursued other interests such as collecting John Deere tractors, watching the History channel and anything that pertained to the Civil War. Pappy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his son Roger Dale Owens, Jr.; and his sister who passed away the day before him, Connie Sue Biddle, He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 36 years Gloria Roche Owens; his children Ricky Dale Owens of Liberty, Jamie Dale Owens and wife Seba of Eastgate, Jackie Joe Smith and wife Tina of Raymond, New Hampshire and Clinton Scott Smith of Winnie; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings David, Ann, Ed, Travis, Margie, Billy, James and Jerry; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Thorndyke, Ricky Dale Owens,II, Mason Owens, Jason Owens, Billy Owens and Travis Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, Dave Owens, Jimmy Owens and Jerry Owens.
