Woman fatally shot in New Caney

Authorities in Montgomery County have arrested a 55-year-old man, Jimmy Lane, for murder after he allegedly shot and killed a woman at a property on the 23100 block of Payne Road in New Caney.

The shooting death of the unidentified female was first reported around 8:45 p.m. Friday; however, her body was not discovered until Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies returned to the home a second time around 10:15 p.m.

During the first visit to the home, deputies were unable to make contact with the male caller and could not get through the locked entry gate.

“After multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact the reportee by the patrol car loudspeaker and by phone, the deputies left the scene,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

When deputies were dispatched the second time to the home, they were able to speak to Lane, who reportedly admitted to the deputies that he had shot and killed the woman. The Homicide-Violent Crimes Unit, MCSO Crime Lab and Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation.

Justice of the Peace Masden ordered an autopsy.

Lane is charged with murder and is being held in the Montgomery County Jail. The victim’s name is not being released until she is positively identified and until her next of kin is located and notified.
