Carolyn Williams Steely

Carolyn Williams Steely, age 76 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019. She was born December 14, 1942 in Houston, Texas to parents Howard Ray Williams and Marie Taylor Williams who preceded her in death.

Carolyn was a supporter of many youth activities including Girl Scouts and served as a troop leader. She was a very involved parent of 4-H and FFA, and a co-parent to many local children. She volunteered at and served on the board of directors for Dairy Day. Carolyn and her family attended mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the Alter Society, taught Sunday school and was a member of the auction committee. She was an originator of the “Save the Texan” campaign that raised funds to save our historic theater. Carolyn was always active in local politics and was a supporter of conservative causes.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Steely; daughters, Lauren Twining and husband Steve, Cindy Chapman and husband Donnie; son, Brian Steely; grandchildren, Jessica Twining, Garret Twining and wife Katharina, Jake Twining, Travis Twining, Madison Chapman, Jenna Chapman and Claire Chapman; great-granddaughter, Erica Twining; along with numerous relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home 303 East Crockett Cleveland, Texas 77327. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 702 E. Houston, Texas 77327 Celebrant Rev. Vincent Alexius. The interment will follow at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens. For those desiring, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
