
The season-opening events for Cleveland Youth Baseball Association and Tarkington Community Baseball and Softball Association were home runs as both leagues enjoyed high turnout and good weather on Saturday, March 23.
In Cleveland, teams kicked off the season bright and early with a parade of vehicles down Houston St. (SH 321), ending at Cleveland Municipal Park where a cake auction and festivities were held after all the teams arrived.
Cleveland Mayor Otis Cohn and Cleveland City Manager Kelly McDonald were invited to throw out the opening pitches for the baseball and softball teams, and then a full day of games began.
Over in Tarkington, teams were introduced inside the Tarkington Middle School gymnasium as they presented their cakes for auction. Local businessman Chance Ward was auctioneer.
