First Baptist Church of Dayton celebrating new leadership

The Ohmstede family

First Baptist Church Dayton has seen many changes in the past six months with its new pastoral staff, after being without a pastor for most of 2018. Sunday service attendance has more than doubled and new members are joining on a regular basis. Baptisms are being performed and people are accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior, according to a statement from church staff.

FBC Dayton’s new Senior Pastor – George Ohmstede, a born-and-raised Texan, who relocated from California to join First Baptist Church in October 2018, is maintaining his humility amidst the progress, saying he is simply an instrument being used by God for His purposes.

“George’s leadership has facilitated a year in advance church events schedule for use by staff and members and his teachings have been deemed by listeners as incredibly insightful and inspiring as well as Biblically sound,” the statement continues.

The other new pastoral staff member, Curtis Fahrlender, relocated from Iowa in January 2019 to join First Baptist Church as the Family Pastor. He exudes a youthful energy and a strong faith that has attracted youth and young families. In the short time he has been with FBC Dayton, Curtis has already established youth activities throughout the week.

In FBC Dayton’s Family Life Center, Curtis welcomes students to Open Gym after-school (2:30-4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays);Wednesday night activities and Bible study (6 p.m.); and Sunday morning Bible study (9:15 a.m.).  Teen and preteen summer camps have already been planned.

Both of these men have wives and young children. George’s wife Sarah is using her gift of singing to lead worship on occasion and her talent for teaching women’s Bible studies. Curtis’s wife Leah is using her gift for graphics and website design to support various needs of the church.

Sarah has used her gift for facilitation to plan and coordinate a special simulcast event on April 6 at FBC Dayton that is open to women in our area. It is a live event that features the American author, speaker, evangelist and actress Priscilla Shirer who starred in the Christian movie War Room.

“With this powerhouse of pastoral leadership and talent, Easter at First Baptist Church Dayton should be quite interesting,” the statement concludes.
