A Cleveland man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in the northbound lane of US 59 near Kingsport Lane in Splendora Thursday afternoon.

The man was sitting in standstill traffic in his 2018 Ford F-150 due to a jackknifed 18-wheeler a few miles north near the flea markets in Cleveland. His vehicle was hit from behind by a Dodge Ram pickup, said Lt. James “Troy” Teller, spokesperson for Splendora Police Department.

“This was one of those new aluminum body trucks and there was nothing left of it. It folded like a tin can,” Teller said.

Preliminary information suggests the Cleveland man, whose name is not being released until his next of kin is notified, was killed on impact. The drivers of the Dodge Ram and the jackknifed 18-wheeler survived.

Teller said that no charges have been filed at this time pending the outcome of the investigation. The Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting Splendora PD.

The Ford pickup truck was destroyed in the crash Thursday afternoon. The driver was killed.
