Dayton Scout Adam King obtains Scouting’s highest honor

Troop 8 Scout Adam King passed his Board of Review for Eagle Scout on April 26, 2019, thus obtaining scouting’s highest honor, The Eagle Scout Award. He is the son of Billy King and Leslie Newton.

Under the leadership and guidance of Scoutmaster Paul D. Newton, Troop 8 sponsored by Eastgate Church of Dayton, King has been a member for six years and has earned 32 merit badges. As a BSA National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) graduate, he has served his troop over these years as Scribe, Historian, OA Representative, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and is currently the Senior Patrol Leader.

King is an active Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s Honor Society, serving as a past Chapter Chief of Hasinai Lodge and Delegate at the 2018 National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) in Bloomington, Ind.

As a member of Troop 8, King has camped over 120 nights in the outdoors having participated in numerous weekend campouts and attending camps at Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch in Fort Davis, TX, El Rancho Cima in Wimberley, Texas, Sid Richardson Scout Ranch in Decatur, TX, Bear Creek Scout Reservation in Hunt, TX, and Trevor Rees-Jones Scout Camp in Athens, TX.

King continues to be active in Scouting and plans on attending Philmont Scout Ranch for a 12-day backpacking trek this summer with other Scouts from Troop 8.

King is in the 11th grade at Dayton High School and has been active in both the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and Business Professionals of America (BPA).

For his Eagle Scout community service project, King planned and executed a mapping of the historical Acie Cemetery in Dayton, Texas. This involved recording all the names, dates, and geographic location information from over 300 headstones and entering them into an online database where the Acie Cemetery Association could manage the grave plots and where the public can view the records online.

King is the 14th Eagle Scout to come from Troop 8 since its founding in 2005. A ceremony honoring King will take place sometime in August. Family and friends will be invited to attend.
