A New Caney man is charged with Injury to a Child after a 5-year-old boy was taken to Kingwood Medical Center with extensive injuries to his lower torso and genitals that the parents reportedly claimed were from a bicycle accident. The man, 29-year-old Jose Manuel Gonzales, is the boyfriend of the child’s mother.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the child was listed in critical condition and immediately transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston where he underwent surgery to save his life.
“Medical staff there determined that the injuries were not consistent with the story provided by the parents, and contacted CPS,” the MCSO statement reads.
Detectives with the Special Victims Unit were notified and began an investigation working with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation resulted in a search warrant for the residence where the child lived.
“The Special Victims Unit detectives interviewed the parents and obtained a confession from the mother’s boyfriend, Jose Manuel Gonzales, who admitted the story about the bicycle was untrue. He admitted to having caused the injuries to the child and a warrant was issued for his arrest on May 1, 2019, for Injury to a Child (Serious Bodily Injury), a first-degree felony.”
After Gonzales’ arrest, he was placed in the Montgomery County Jail on a no-bond, meaning he will remain in jail until his pending trial.
