A body found Wednesday in a wooded area off of FM 2666 in Shepherd has been identified as Rhonda Richardson, 59, of Shepherd.

According to Capt. Joe Schultea Jr., spokesperson with the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, Richardson was positively identified during an autopsy on Friday, May 24, at the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Beaumont.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, Schultea said, and the investigation is ongoing.

Richardson lived Hoot Road, a dead-end road that branches off of FM 2666, southwest of Shepherd.

Her body was found by people walking through the woods, Schultea said.
