Crash involving deputy constable ends in minor injuries for 2 people

A two-vehicle crash around 1 p.m. Friday in Tarkington sent two to area hospitals with minor injuries.

A Liberty County deputy constable was involved in a minor accident around 1 p.m. Friday after a vehicle pulled in front of his path as he traveled through Tarkington, according to Pct. 5 Deputy Constable David Hunter. Both drivers suffered minor injuries, Hunter said.

Hunter’s deputy, James Gardiner, was traveling westbound on SH 105 and approaching the intersection with SH 321 when an eastbound vehicle exited the Chevron station and pulled into Gardiner’s path.

“Thank goodness, he saw her in time and was able to slow down. Otherwise this would have been a more serious accident,” Hunter said.

Gardiner suffered injuries to his knee and elbow but is otherwise okay. He was taken to the emergency room in Cleveland for treatment. The female driver in the other vehicle was complaining of back and neck injuries, according to Hunter, and was taken by private vehicle to a hospital in the Houston area.
