1 injured in crash on bypass in Liberty

Shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, an 18-wheeler traveling northbound on the SH 146 bypass in Liberty was struck by a southbound SUV near the intersection of the bypass and Woodspring Drive in Liberty.

The SUV struck the semi in two locations – hitting the truck’s front wheel and skimming down the side of the vehicle to hit the truck’s back tires.

The driver of the SUV suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. No other injuries were reported, according to Lt. Chip Fairchild, spokesperson for Liberty Police Department.

The intersection played no part in the collision, Fairchild added.

The crash forced law enforcement to close the roadway for several hours so the truck’s cargo – a load of pipe – could be offloaded to another truck. Limited traffic is being let through the area as of 2 p.m. Tuesday. Fairchild said the roadway would be closed one more hour and should reopen by 3 p.m.
