Wortham picked as SFA Elementary principal by Dayton ISD trustees

Dayton ISD congratulates Atiya Wortham, who will serve as Stephen F. Austin Elementary Principal for the 2019-2020 school year. The Dayton ISD Board of Trustees approved her during the June 25 Board Meeting.

Wortham grew up in Houston and graduated from C.E. King High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University in Interdisciplinary Studies and obtained her master’s degree from Lamar University in Educational Leadership.

She began her teaching career with Sheldon ISD where she taught English Language Arts for seven years at H.M. Carroll Elementary School. During her time on the campus, she served as a department chair, administrative intern, new teacher mentor and served on several campus/district committees.

In 2017, she came to Dayton ISD to accept the assistant principal position at Stephen F. Austin Elementary. She served on the campus as an assistant principal for two years before moving to the principal position.

Wortham stated that she is looking forward to serving the community of Dayton. She said that it brings her great joy to be welcomed with open arms to a community that strives for excellence and ensures that the staff and students are a top priority.  She is a member of Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).

Wortham has been married for eight years to her high school sweetheart Keon Wortham. They have one son and one daughter, Keon Jr., 6, and Amaya, 4. She enjoys spending time with family, making balloon arrangements, and watching football.
