Rev. Earl J. Sheffield, III

Rev. Earl J. Sheffield, III, 80, of Wallisville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, J.uly 27, 2019 in Pasadena, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born on J.une 4, 1939 in Galveston, Texas to the late Madelyne Robertson and Earl J. Sheffield, Jr.

Earl graduated from Alvin High School in 1957. He earned a Bachelor of Physics and a Bachelor of Math from the University of Texas and received his Masters of Divinity from Seminary in Theology. Earl was ordained as an Episcopal Deacon in 1968 then Priest in 1969. He served the church from then and was Bi-vocational in the 1980s. Earl worked for Superior and Mobil Oil Companies as a Geophysicist for ten years. His last active ministry before retirement was as Vicar of Trinity Episcopal Church in Anahuac, Texas. Earl proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was an Intelligence Officer and holding the rank of Lieutenant while stationed Hawaii.

Earl was a former member of the San Augustine Lions Club and the Anahuac American Legion Post #104. He pursued many interests, some of which included reading old westerns and science fiction books and anything Hawaii. In younger days, Earl was formerly active in a barbershop quartet and enjoyed square dancing with his wife Renee. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Linda Evans; and his son-in-law Phillip Ward, DO. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 55 years Renee Sheffield of Wallisville; his children Heather Ward of Wallisville, Earl J. Sheffield, IV and wife Angelika of Baytown, Andrew Sheffield and wife Brenda of Collinsville, MS; his six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Anahuac, 204 Trinity Street in Anahuac.
