Body of elderly male found in wooded area along FM 160

The body of an elderly black man was found in a wooded area beside the CC Club on FM 160 in Ames around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Det. Robert Dunn, a spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the man’s body was found by a relative.

“The family said the last time they talked to him was about two weeks ago,” Dunn said. “He had been there a few days but it’s hard to tell how long until the autopsy is performed.”

According to Dunn, there is nothing to suggest foul play at this time. The deceased man, estimated to be in his 70s, had been living at a residence on the property and may have died of natural causes.

His body was taken to the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Beaumont for autopsy.
