Charleen E. Burney

Funeral Services for Charleen E. Burney, 92, of Conroe, will be held 10 AM Friday, September 6, 2019 at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. Internment at Oakdale Cemetery in Daisetta will take place immediately following the service.

Mrs. Burney passed from this life on Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Conroe. Charleen was born to John and Isabell Smith in Oklahoma City, OK on October 4, 1926.

Charleen was a resident of Liberty for over 20 years. She and her late husband, JD Burney, made a happy life here with many fond memories. She was a faithful member at First Baptist Church of Liberty. Charleen was a simple woman who rarely wanted for much. Her home was her sanctuary. Mrs. Burney was perfectly happy spending time at home with her birds and a good book. Charleen loved puzzles, there was always one out on a table at home. She was without a doubt a strong and outspoken woman and you always knew where you stood with her. Underneath all of that was a faithful Christian woman that was kind and caring. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Charleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, JD Burney; her parents; a previous husband, Edward Hughes Sr.; a son, Harry Hughes; and a daughter, Barbara Ann Kitchen.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her children, Linda Honc and husband, Raymond, Edward Hughes Jr. and wife, Shari, Kathye Taylor and husband Robert, Edrese Hufford; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
