A search by volunteers with Texas EquuSearch is underway Saturday for a Dayton man who has been missing since Aug. 15. According to Dayton Police Capt. John Coleman, authorities are searching for 34-year-old Steven Dean, who was last seen in his trailer park on the 700 block of US 90, across from Raceway.

Dean is a former member of the U.S. military and is believed to be suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Coleman said.

“We found his cell phone behind the Raceway station about six days later. We figure he was around that area. He walked away from his job and his car. It’s a sure-enough mystery. He could have purposely left everything behind and left. There is nothing to suggest foul play.”

According to Coleman, the search for Dean currently is centered around a sewer plant and an area on FM 1960. With no real direction of where Dean was going or where he might be, Coleman said the searches may produce no results.

“We’ve exhausted all our means and leads,” he said.

Dean is described as 5′ 10″ tall, weighing 160 pounds and a slender build. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He has a tattoo on his forearm with the word “Soldier” and a small skull and cross on his upper right chest.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Dayton Police Department at 936-258-7621.
