Skeletal remains of baby found in wooded area of Liberty County

The skeletal remains of a baby were found in a wooded area off of CR 142 in south Liberty County Tuesday evening, according to Capt. Ken DeFoor, spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s Lead Investigator James R. McQueen and other sheriff’s personnel responded to the scene after the remains were found. The child was found in a shallow grave in the wooded area.

“Due to the remains being skeletal, it was not possible to determine the age, sex or possible cause of death but it appears, at this time, to be the remains of a newborn child,” DeFoor said.

The remains will be submitted for autopsy.

“The investigation is still very much in the early stages and will be ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office is requesting that if anyone has information regarding this child’s death to contact the sheriff’s office at 936-336-4500 or the Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867) All callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and anyone providing a useful tip may be eligible for a cash reward.
