Lynn Nell Jenkins, 91, of Houston, Texas passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019, in Houston. She was born on September 6, 1928, in Grand Mamou, Louisiana to the late Lydia Guidry and W.E. Jenkins, Sr., and the last surviving of the twelve Jenkins children. Nell graduated from Devers High School in 1946 and North Texas State College in 1950.
Nell lived in the Denver, Colorado area for several years and had lived in Houston for the past forty-plus years. She worked for and retired from the Veterans Administration as a medical transcriptionist. In her younger years while in Colorado, Nell loved to snow ski in her spare time. After moving back to Houston, she pursued tennis and played in hundreds of singles and doubles matches. Nell was also a prolific artist and long-time member of the Houston Art Society which awarded her numerous ribbons and trophies for her dedication and hard work. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents; and her eleven brothers and sisters Wallace Jenkins, Clara Musgrave, Anita Syphrett, Meigs Jenkins, Jenora Long, Virginia Marcy, Eldera Vordenbaum, Walter Jenkins, June Hiegel, Jerry Jenkins and Billy Jenkins. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 2pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street in Anahuac. A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm with James Gibson officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nell’s honor to the Houston Art Society, 900 Echo Lane, Houston, Texas 77024.
