Armed property owner stops burglary in Dayton; 1 arrested

Dayton police have one woman in custody and have identified a male suspect in an alleged attempted burglary of a building that took place around 9:15 a.m. Thursday on Klemp Road.

According to Capt. John Coleman, the pair allegedly were breaking into a Conex shipping container when the property owner found them. Coleman said the armed owner attempted to hold the couple at gunpoint until police arrived but the male suspect fled, leaving behind his female accomplice.

Police used tracking dogs to search for the man in the area but he was not located.

“We believe we’ve identified the suspect. We are waiting to get confirmation. We have a video that should help us,” Coleman said.

The female suspect is identified as Kristy Holmes, 40, of Dayton. According to Det. Terry Dale, who is leading the investigation, Holmes is homeless and stays in the Dayton area.

Holmes is being charged with Criminal Trespass and more charges may be pending.
