When the days start getting shorter and the leaves begin to fall, the Liberty Municipal Library gets ready for its annual Great Pumpkin Bash. The Bash will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, in the foyer of the Geraldine D. Humphreys Cultural Center from 4 until 5 p.m.
There will be crafts, games and fun for children of all ages. Because the event will be held on Halloween, the library expects to see lots of goblins, ghosts and superheroes, and children are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween costumes. The Great Pumpkin Bash is free, and everyone is invited to participate
The library will provide 75 black metal trick or treat bucketsthat children will decorate with stickers, stick-on googly eyes, glitter pens, etc. Since quantities are limited, the buckets will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. These will make great Halloween candy buckets, or a special Halloween decoration.
This year the library will have several new Halloween games and crafts. Games will include a Pumpkin Patch Stomp where kids will step on and pop orange balloons that have candy inside. There will also be Boo Bowling, Tic Tack Boo!, Pumpkin matching, Pumpkin bean bag toss, Knock Out Monsters and Roll-a-Frankenstein.
Roll-a-Frankenstein will be both a game and a craft activity. Kids will roll dice and each number on the dice corresponds to a pre-cut part of Frankenstein’s head, like eyes, noses, bolts, scars, mouths, hair, etc. Every time they get a Franken-part, children will paste it on a piece of green construction paper. When finished, children will have created very unusual Frankenstein masterpieces.
Other crafts will include making ghosts with paper and cotton balls, Lego stamp autumn leaves, Lego stamp pumpkins, make-a-monster paper craft, a wearable princess headpiece, a wearable pirate hat and an eye patch. The ever-popular spin art machines will also be available. Children will also make marble art spider webs using a shallow box with a marble, paper and paint. They’ll drip paint onto the paper and roll the marble around in the paint to create a one-of-a-kind spider web.
The Friends of the Library will serve punch and cookies. Halloween music will be playing to get everyone in the mood for a spooktacular party.
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Liberty Municipal Library will provide reasonable accommodation for persons attending and/or participating in this event. To better serve you, requests must be made at least 24 hours prior to the event. The building is wheelchair accessible with parking available on the north and east sides of the building.
