Early voting for the Nov. 5 election ends today, Nov. 1. Registered voters have until 7 p.m. tonight to cast their ballots. If you miss this opportunity, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5. Some of the big issues on the ballots are:
- $198 million bond referendum for Cleveland ISD: If approved, the Cleveland ISD will use the funds to build two new elementary schools and one new junior high school in the Plum Grove area, where rapid growth is taking place.
- A half-cent local sales and use tax imposed by Liberty County Emergency Services District No. 7 (which includes Hardin and Moss Hill): Money used by the referendum will help fund fire equipment for Hardin Volunteer Fire Department.
- Pct. 6 alcohol sales: This measure is to decide if alcohol may be sold within Pct. 6. This does not include the City of Cleveland.
In addition to local elections, Texas voters will decide among a number of propositions, including an amendment that earmarks sales and use taxes from sporting goods to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Historical Commission. Another amendment, Proposition 4, asks voters if they support a state income tax. The wording of Proposition 4 has come under question for its confusing language. A vote for Proposition 4 is actually a vote against a state income tax.
Polling locations for this election only have been combined. Locations are as follows:
