Dayton Historical Society holds holiday fête

Lynne Harding and Anne Marie Landrum entertained guests at the Dayton Historical Society's Christmas celebration on Nov. 25.

Members and guests of the Dayton Historical Society rang in the Christmas season a little before Thanksgiving on Monday evening, Nov. 25, 2019 with their traditional dinner at the community center.

President Danny Bode welcomed everyone to the festively decorated area and led the group in singing “Happy Birthday” to T.J. Crayton and Thelma Reed.  Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Guy Williams, spoke for a few minutes about a reading initiative he is spearheading in January at the elementary schools.

He urged volunteers to help make a difference in young children’s lives by assisting those who struggle to read.  Anyone who would like to be part of this volunteer opportunity can sign up by calling the FUMC office at 936-258-8021.

Following the meal, the group was entertained by the delightful and talented duo of Anne Marie Landrum and her accompanist Lynne Harding who sang/played a variety of well- known Christmas songs.  They invited the audience to join them in singing several more and all left the event with the holiday spirit.

The next meeting of the Dayton Historical Society will be Jan. 28 at Parker Hall at 6 p.m.
