A San Jacinto County sheriff’s deputy responding to a burglary in progress was killed late Saturday night following a crash involving two sheriff’s vehicles on Hill St. at Davey Lane in Coldspring.
Sheriff Greg Capers said troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash, but what he has learned is the deputy, Brian Pfluger, was ejected and thrown around 50 feet when the vehicle rolled.

Pfluger was taken to CSI St. Luke’s Hospital in Livingston where he later died. His body will be escorted to the medical examiner’s office in Beaumont for autopsy. Capers said Pfluger will be accompanied by a member of law enforcement around the clock until his body is returned to San Jacinto County.
Pfluger had worked for the sheriff’s office for approximately four years. He was the son of a retired trooper, Capers said.
The sheriff said Pfluger leaves behind a family with young children.
Capers said the other deputy involved in the crash is expected to recover from his physical injuries.
