Dorothy “Dot” Mae Schaeffer

Dorothy “Dot” Mae Schaeffer, 85, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 23, 1934, in Goose Creek, Texas to the late Myrtle Mae Good and John Bernell Coon, Sr. Dot graduated from Cedar Bayou High School in 1952. In December 1952, Dot married the love of her life, Harlin Schaeffer. They were dedicated members for many years of Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church.

Dot was a kind and gracious lady who was full of sass and grit. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and a heart of gold. Dot pursued many interests, some of which included playing cards with friends and working jigsaw puzzles. Dot’s favorite hobby of all was spending time with her family and spoiling the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After Harlin retired from farming, she became a dedicated farmer on Facebook.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her son David Schaeffer; and her brothers J.B. Coon and Bill Mathews. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 67 years, Harlin Schaeffer; her daughter Debbie Foster and husband Glenn of Baytown; her grandsons Brent Foster and wife Leslie of Anahuac and Blake Foster and wife Kristin of Mont Belvieu; her great-grandchildren Hailey, Cain, Luke, Abby, and Harlyn; her many favorite nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Brent Foster, Blake Foster, Glenn Foster, Luke Foster, Eddie Foster, and Cain Shaw.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 10am on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. A funeral service will begin at 11am. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Palms Memorial Park in Dayton.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dot’s honor to the building fund for Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church, 2714 Ferry Rd, Baytown, TX 77520.
