Christene West

Christene West, 96 of Shepherd, Texas passed away on January 23, 2020. Mrs. West was born on October 16, 1923 in the Gladsdell community outside of Cleveland, Texas to parents Wes and Martha Howard, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years Walter L. West and her two brothers, Royce Howard and J.C. Howard.

Her family moved to Shepherd when Christene was a young child and she attended the Shepherd schools. Before her marriage and relocating to Houston, she worked in bookkeeping at Peoples State Bank. Mrs. West retired from Igloo Corp in 1985 where she was employed in the payroll and benefits department. Although living and working in Houston, Christene and Walter never lost their roots in San Jacinto county. After retiring from their jobs, they returned to make Shepherd their home.

Christene loved to serve people and volunteered for many years on her church’s hospitality committee. She enjoyed working in her yard and sewing in her free time.

Christene is survived by her son, Howard L. West and his wife, Geralyn; daughter, Lois Evans and her husband Bob; granddaughter, Chelsi Bass and her husband Danny; great-grandchildren Harper Rose and Weston Wayne Bass; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Family will receive friends at Pace Stancil Funeral Home – Cleveland on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be in the chapel at Pace Stancil Funeral Home – Cleveland on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Preston Baker. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Bass, Paul Howard, Keith Underwood, Davis Moulder, Jimmy Hall, Alvie Lee Ellis and honorary pallbearer Weston Wayne Bass. Burial will follow at Hayman cemetery on FM 2025 in Coldspring, Texas.
