Dayton ISD powerlifting team powers through for big win

Dayton ISD competed at the Liberty powerlifting meet on Jan. 18, 2024. The boys powerlifting team finished 1st place, and the girls finished in 2nd place.

“Dayton ISD is so proud of our powerlifting team and all of their accomplishments,” Dr. Jessica Johnson said in a statement.

Coach Whitehead added, “Coach Little and I are extremely proud of the hard work these young men and women put in daily. Many of them are involved in other extracurricular activities along with keeping their grades up. We look forward to the upcoming meets and hope to see our kids advance to regionals.”

The boys’ individual placings:

  • 123s – Joseph Benavides (3rd)
  • 132s – Tait Owens (2nd)
  • 181s – Adrian Jimenez (2nd)
  • 198s – Braeden White (2nd)
  • 220s – Sheridan Graves (1st), Josh Spaller (2nd), Esequil Reyna (3rd)
  • 242s – Jabob Mercer (1st)
  • 275s – Emilio Villa (1st)
  • 308s – Shane Morgan

The girls’ individual placings:

  • 114s – Hailey Espiritu (1st), Erika Sexton (3rd), Jade Harms (4th), Belem Briones (5th)
  • 148s – Chloe Whitehead (1st), Maci Belt (2nd), Daliela Tobar (4th)
  • 181s – Lanie Whitehead (1st), Ariana Zuniga (2nd)
  • 242-plus – Isabella Narvaez (2nd)
