Hardin County man killed in crash

Liberty Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Hardin County man early Friday morning.

According to Lt. Mike Parrish, a spokesperson for Liberty PD, the crash occurred around 3:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the 7400 block of State Highway 146 North, just north of the new Liberty County Law Enforcement Center.

“The driver left the roadway, and traveled into the pasture on the west side of the roadway, overturned and his vehicle caught fire,” Parrish said. “The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. We believe he might have fallen asleep and left the roadway. Right now, the accident is still under investigation.”

The vehicle rolled a few times before coming to a stop, which may have sparked the fire, Parrish added.

The name of the crash victim is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.

The officer investigating the crash for Liberty PD is Sgt. Donald Henley.

Overnight, a Liberty police officer, Merium Jarman, was involved in an off-duty accident in the Houston area, Parrish said. Her vehicle was struck by another and overturned. Fortunately, she only suffered minor injuries. She was transported to a hospital where she was treated and released.
