Rebecca Cabales Mullin passed from this life to the next in the early morning hours of February 29, 2024.
Life began for Rebecca, Becky, in Oceano, California, January 28, 1937. Born to missionary parents, she was raised with a heart of service for the mission field, particularly the Philippine Islands, her heritage. She devoted her time and energy to God, praying daily for the ones she loved.
She met her “One and done” Texas Sailor, Wayne Mullin, November 4, 1957, and married him just a few short days later, on November 20, 1957. A whirlwind romance that stood solid for just 2 months shy of 50 years until his death on September 23, 2007. During this long life together, God led them and their five children in various areas of the country and finally settled in Amarillo, Texas, where they pastored the Church of God of Prophecy.
She was a crafting queen who never passed a Hobby Lobby clearance sale because “I can use this for something.” She loved interior design and studied it at CalPoly Tech in the 1950s. It was important for her to arrange her space, no matter where or what size, to its full potential.
She was a woman of many talents. She could play any instrument she picked up by ear and belt out a song like nobody’s business. Mostly, she could be found behind the piano whether it was in church, family reunion or blessing those around her in her apartment complex and rehabilitation facilities where she spent time recovering from various illnesses in her later years. Her favorite instrument had been the saxophone and she loved strapping it on and playing it at family reunions along with her musically talented family. No matter what instrument she was playing or where she was playing it for the glory of God.
She was loved by many. Those who knew her best knew she was crafty, hard working, loved her family (by blood or choice), and had a sassy sense of humor.
The final 7 months of her life, she was able to fulfill a long-standing desire to return to sandy shores. That dream was made possible by her youngest sister, Esther, who took her into her home and cared for her in a way only a sister can, until her death.
Becky was preceded in death by: husband, Wayne Mullin; parents, Santos and Temotea Cabales; and her first-born daughter, Laura Scott. Sisters: Loretta Catana, Juanita Icalia, Elizabeth Sculthorp. Brothers: Johnny Cabales, David Cabales, Henry Castanares, and Rodrigo Castanares.
