A 52-year-old Porter, Texas, man – Harold Laygan – is facing a charge of Aggravated Robbery after he was arrested by the Montgomery County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office on March 3, 2024.
Deputy constables were dispatched to the Walmart in Porter, following reports of a suspicious individual on the premises. The loss prevention team at Walmart reportedly identified a male suspect attempting to conceal merchandise. As the individual attempted to exit the store without making a purchase, the loss prevention officers reportedly intervened to prevent the theft.
The situation escalated when the suspect, reportedly in an attempt to dissuade the officers, revealed a concealed firearm. Prioritizing safety, the loss prevention officers allowed the suspect to leave, after which he fled to his vehicle in an attempt to escape the scene. However, thanks to the quick response of the Pct. 4 deputies, the suspect was detained without incident shortly thereafter.
Following a thorough investigation, Laygan was arrested and charged with felony aggravated robbery.
Constable Hayden extends his gratitude to the Walmart loss prevention team for their bravery and quick thinking during this tense situation.
“Their dedication to safety and security is commendable, and it is through such collaborative efforts that we are able to maintain the peace and security,” said Constable Hayden.
