Barbara Jean Ricks

Barbara Jean Ricks, 89, of Webster, Texas, peacefully departed this world on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in Houston, Texas, enveloped in the embrace of her adoring family. She was born to the late Jesse Clark and Linnie Snyder-Clark on November 28, 1934, in Empire, Alabama. Barbara’s life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and cherished moments.

Barbara was a beacon of love as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, doting grandmother, and loyal friend to many. Her faith was steadfast as she attended Crosby Brethren Church, finding solace and community within its walls.

In the quiet moments, Barbara found joy in simple pleasures—crocheting, solving puzzle books, and eagerly tuning into “Dancing with the Stars.” Her affinity for conversation knew no bounds, as she could effortlessly engage with anyone, from dear friends to passing acquaintances. With a whimsical sense of humor, she could turn even the most mundane moment into a cherished memory.

She delighted in the melodies of old Country and Western music, including June and Johnny Cash, Lorretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, and many others. A culinary artist in her own right, Barbara’s kitchen was filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals and sweet treats. Her heart swelled with joy during the holiday season when she lovingly prepared wonderful holiday meals including everyone’s favorite divinity and fudge, thus creating enduring memories with her loved ones.

Barbara’s talents extended beyond the kitchen. She fondly crocheted blankets, hats, scarves, and outfits for her grandchildren’s dolls, infusing each stitch with boundless love and affection.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Edward Conway Ricks, and her cherished son, William (Bill) Anthony Ricks. Left to treasure her memory are her children: Beverly Ann Cheek of Houston, Texas; Brenda Kay Herdejurgen and husband Arthur (Art) of Highlands, Texas; Edward Conway (Eddie) Ricks, Jr. of Colorado; Deborah Jean (Debbie) Tatum and husband Paul of Dayton, Texas; and Kathy Jo (Dodie) Turley of Bardstown, Kentucky. Her eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren further enrich Barbara’s legacy and many other beloved relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 11am, on Friday, March 8, 2024, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton.
