Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Kade Burman is currently facing a charge of Aggravated Assault by a Peace Officer, a first-degree felony, in connection to an arrest made in 2022.
Chief Deputy Billy Knox of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Burman surrendered earlier this week to law enforcement in Polk County, where he resides.
An investigation into the alleged assault began after authorities first learned about the allegations from the arrested subject, who has at least several prior arrests in Liberty County. The Texas Rangers are overseeing the investigation.
Knox said Burman was placed on desk duty while the investigation was underway.
The details of the alleged assault are unknown at this time. A mugshot of Burman is being requested.

“The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office will cooperate with the Texas Rangers and the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office on this case,” Knox said. “This arrest is not a reflection on our department and it is an isolated incident.”
Burman is out on a $100,000 bond pending further developments in this case.
