A 21-year-old Sugarland man, Meer Toqiuddin Saleem, wanted in connection to a shooting on the streets near Neal Funeral Home in Cleveland on March 10 is now in custody.

According to Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard, Saleem was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, March 30. He is charged with Deadly Conduct and is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a Cleveland Police Department warrant. No bond is set as of press time.

Broussard added that Saleem has to first clear charges in Montgomery County before he is returned to Cleveland for the Liberty County charge.

“The [CPD] warrant stemmed from a Cleveland Police Department case involving shots being fired at a local funeral home in downtown Cleveland on March 10. After a further investigation into the shooting, detectives were able to identify someone close to the family as the suspected actor in discharging the firearm,” Broussard said.

“The family,” to which Broussard refers, had just walked outside of Neal Funeral Home after making arrangements for another relative when Saleem began firing from his vehicle.

“The shots were in such close proximity that it caused for many family members who were standing outside the funeral home to scramble and crawl underneath nearby parked vehicles for their safety,” Broussard said.

In addition to Deadly Conduct, which is a third degree felony, Saleem is charged in Montgomery County with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.

  1. Don’t let him out on bond. He will do it again. The residents in our county are in danger of so many illegals in our area as well our entire country.

  2. I’ll never understand how firing a gun at someone isn’t attempted murder. This POS will get this down to some lesser charge and be back out in no time. Ridiculous.
