Trinity River in Liberty still on the rise; see aerial photos

Flooding south of Knights Forest, Wednesday, May 1, 2024

The Trinity River in Liberty County is still on the rise and is projected to crest at an elevation of 30.7 on Friday, May 3. The river forecasts provided by the National Weather Service, which pinpoints the time of the crest at around 4 p.m. Friday takes into account past precipation and expected rainfall 24 hours into the future.

The river will crest at nearly five feet above the flood stage of 26 feet. With additional rainfall expected on Thursday and Friday, Bill Hergemueller, coordinator of the Liberty County Office of Emergency Management, said conditions could worse and he is urging residents to remain vigilant.

“Stay alert and watch for flooded roads,” Hergemueller advised, as concerns grow over the impact of the impending weather conditions.

In anticipation of the storm system that swept through Southeast Texas on Sunday, resulting in widespread rainfall, Hergemueller had already begun advising residents in flood-prone neighborhoods in Liberty County to prepare and, if possible, evacuate.

Despite the imminent threat, many residents in these communities, accustomed to dealing with the challenges posed by previous floods, are choosing to remain behind to protect their properties.

“Don’t wait until nightfall to ask for help. We won’t be putting first responders in boats at night to do a rescue. Use good judgment when you are securing your home. If you have a medical emergency, call 911. We have game wardens and others on standby, but we don’t intend to go out at night because of the increased risk to our first responders,” Hergemueller said.

Here are the top 10 historic crests for the Trinity River at the Liberty Bridge:

  • 32.70 ft on 09/01/2017
  • 31.00 ft on 10/21/1994
  • 30.03 ft on 05/23/1990
  • 29.96 ft on 05/31/2015
  • 29.95 ft on 10/22/2018
  • 29.95 ft on 06/01/2016
  • 29.92 ft on 05/15/2019
  • 29.62 ft on 01/06/1992
  • 29.60 ft on 12/20/2015
  • 29.58 ft on 12/14/2018

On Tuesday, Hergemueller and others involved in emergency services took to the skies to get a better picture of the extent of flooding. He, along with Hardin Fire Chief Nic Nelson, provided the following aerial photos.

      • He’s right, they are already proven swimmers. I’m sure plenty more of you are on the way, since yall are too ignorant to know when it’s time to stop uselessly breeding and shitting out your welfare beanlets.

    • Heck yeah!

Crazy part is the Colony Ridge shithole is already flooding with the e. Fork san Jac river cresting at 71 feet at 1485.
It crested at like 81 during Harvey, so next Harvey type event should flush that toilet well.

      • Sammy, what happened to you that makes you have such hate in your heart? It’s so sad.

  1. Sammy you are the SUPREME MEANING OF IGNORANT,WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. DON’T EVER FORGET THAT.

    • You’re right, Big Pappy.

Get back to me after your neighborhood gets infested with beans. What used to be a decent area has now devolved into a third world, crime ridden crap hole. Jungle music all night, maybe a stray bullet through the hood of your truck. Taco feces flowing through the ditch, and half of your federally withheld taxes going to subsidies of some form to pay for it all.

Trash dumped in the road, primer grey ’92 chevy blasting through the hood at all hours with no muffler. Burglaries up since the plague.

Broccoli haircut having tortilla beaters and straight up thugs roaming the neighborhood where you raise your kids, searching for the next pe pubescent girl to try and molest. Assaults on the rise, and the school taxes you pay gone to the wayside since they live 10 to a property, but our taxes were based on two.

Your kids can’t play outside without the possibility of them getting snatched.

Please tell me you are not that ignorant, Wayne. Look around at our country- our town. These animals have no respect for the laws that protect us, no respect for neighbors, or the land and it’s history, or our sanctity. You and I both suffer the ramifications.

I will assume you have never had to live by these crap stains on civilized society, yet. otherwise, I’m sure you would agree. Anyone with two functioning brain cells can read the county crime reports and see what demographic is the problem.

Sounds like you are the one suffering from ignorance, and probably a pantywaist, as well.

      Buttwaxer.
