
James Gilbert Green, 63, of Dayton, Texas, passed away on May 6, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 31, 1960, in Liberty, Texas, to the late Gilbert Green and Frances Ellen Gilley Green Crocker, James was a cherished lifelong resident of the Dayton area. He attended local schools and built his life and legacy within his community.
James’s career spanned various roles, showcasing his versatility and skill. From heavy equipment operation in the logging industry to welding and automotive mechanics, he tackled each task with determination and expertise. A member of the Simmons Bottom Assembly of God Church, James’s faith was a guiding force in his life.
His talents extended beyond the workplace, as he excelled in carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing—earning him the reputation of a true jack-of-all-trades. James’s vibrant personality endeared him to all who crossed his path. With a larger-than-life presence, he was known for his friendliness, talkativeness, and unwavering work ethic. He cherished social interactions, never hesitating to strike up a conversation with strangers and friends alike.
In his leisure time, James found joy in a variety of activities. Whether tinkering, fishing, hunting, or engaging in friendly banter, he embraced life with gusto. He had a penchant for good-natured heckling, especially directed at his beloved wife and children. James also had a love for reading, despite his tendency to argue with B-grade movies.
James was preceded in death by his parents; and uncles Cleon Gilley and Johnny Green. He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Daisy Green; his children Jaime Green, Sakarah Green and husband Freddy Perdew, J. Patrick Green, Rachel Green, Katy Green, and Gilbert Green. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren Trey, Briana, James, Isiss, Gabriel, Eric, Emybers, Bella, Frances, Vincent, Michael, Emi, and Kaiden; as well as his great-grandchild Levi. He is also survived by his brother John Green and wife Jeanine; and his aunts and uncles Wendell Gilley and wife Debbie, Pixie Gilley, Betty Green Marshall and husband Louis, Lucy Green, and Jackie Aucoin and wife Jean; along with numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Friends and loved ones are invited to honor James’s memory at a visitation beginning at 1 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, located at 602 North Main Street in Dayton. A celebration of James’s life will follow at 2 PM, with Bro. Jimmy Charles officiating. James will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
