San Jacinto County is currently the focus of two death investigations following two separate 911 calls made on Thursday afternoon, May 23.
Chief Deputy Tim Kean of the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a body was located in the vicinity of N. Oak Street in Shepherd at approximately 2:15 p.m. Around that same time, another 911 call was received regarding what turned out to be a fatal injury for a toddler in the New Waverly area.
The body found in Shepherd belongs to a woman believed to be from the Shepherd area, according to Kean. Her body is being taken for autopsy and toxicology tests. It is hoped that the autopsy will positively identify the woman.
Kean said the body had no obvious signs of trauma and the woman may have died from a drug overdose.
Only sparse details are known regarding the death of the 2-year-old child in the New Waverly area as investigators are still at the scene gathering evidence and taking statements, as of 7:30 p.m., he said.
The child suffered severe head trauma and the body will be taken for autopsy.
An update will be posted as soon as more information is available.
