Hunter Dee Garvey, 63, a lifelong resident of Anahuac, Texas, finally stopped outrunning the law, whiskey, and mischief on Monday, May 20, 2024, in Houston, Texas, after a valiant battle with for 25 years with Stiff Man Syndrome. He was born on March 1, 1961, in Anahuac, Texas, to Bertha Louise Adams Ezer and the late Frank Lee Garvey Jr., Hunter spent his life dodging trouble and creating unforgettable memories.
Hunter graduated from Anahuac High School with the Class of 1979, probably with a few “borrowed” answers and a lot of charm. He then earned an associate degree from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma, proving you can teach an old dog new tricks. Armed with a pilot/private instructor license and instrumentation, Hunter flew literally and figuratively high.
After his airborne adventures, Hunter returned to Texas and swapped his wings for heavy machinery as an equipment operator for WT Byler Company, a contractor for Union Pacific Railroad. He spent many years moving equipment, making railroad transfers, and being very particular about his work. Spoiled and doted on by his grandmother, Hunter was always one step ahead of the law, a true Hellraiser with a heart of gold.
His father preceded Hunter’s death, but he leaves behind a colorful legacy. His mother, Louise Ezer of Anahuac; his brother, Frank Garvey, and wife, Loy of Anahuac, will fondly remember his mischief. His niece, Kristina Ulbricht, and husband, PJ of Edna; and nephew, Leslie Garvey of Anahuac; his great-nieces, Keleigh Adams and husband, Coley, Kamryn Hampton, and Kendal Hampton; his soulmate and partner, Kim Linn of Anahuac, will miss the tales of his escapades. Hunter also leaves behind a host of other loving relatives and friends who will never forget the man, the myth, the legend.
Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 2 PM on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street. A celebration of Hunter’s larger-than-life presence will follow at 3 PM at the funeral home.
