Linda Marie Simien

Linda Marie Simien, aged 75, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2024. She was born on March 16, 1949, in Liberty, Texas, to Julia and Elie Simon. She was a proud resident of Raywood, Texas, where she attended Woodson High School until 1966. Thereafter, she attended Hull-Daisetta High School, which was finally integrated, a full twelve years after the landmark civil rights case of 1954 Brown v. Board of Education.

She married her high school sweetheart, Wilford Simien, on August 12, 1967, in Raywood, Texas, and settled next door to her parents to begin her married life. She was a lifelong learner, from earning her Associate’s degree in Business in 1976 at Lee College in Baytown, Texas, to earning a medical coding certification in 1995. She held many jobs throughout her life, from secretarial positions to retail to even running her own business. Linda worked for CoreCivic as a Detention Officer in Houston, Texas until the week before she passed. She truly loved that job and was loved and respected in return by her colleagues and even the detainees.

Linda was very outgoing and loved zydeco, blues, and trail riding. Crafting and sewing were her two biggest passions.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 19 years, Wilford; by her parents; and by her brothers, Brian Joseph Simon and Larry Simon. She is survived by her four children Veronica (Claudel) Jean-Pierre; Sherry Simien; Rebecca (Howard) Levy; and Marcus Simien. She leaves behind her seven grandchildren Elijah Simien, Claudel Jean-Pierre II, Andre Jean-Pierre, Nigel Jean-Pierre, Desirae Doyle, Harold Doyle IV, and Micah Levy. In addition, she will be deeply mourned by her surviving siblings, Martha (Sammy) Wickliff; Carol Simon; Curtis (Shirley) Simon; and Valerie Kay (Clyde) Oatis. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a large extended family who will miss her as much as her Raywood and Ames communities.

Family, friends, and others are invited to celebrate her life at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raywood, Texas on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The viewing will begin at 9 am, followed by the Rosary at 10 am and the Funeral Mass at 11 am. Immediately after she will be interred at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery, followed by repast and fellowship at Sacred Heart Church Hall.

Allison Funeral Service in Liberty, Texas will receive floral arrangements, and host a website in her honor.
