Donald A. Whitmire

Donald A. Whitmire, known for his unwavering love for his family, friends, and animals, passed away on June 5, 2024, in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on February 14, 1948, in Cleveland, Texas.

Throughout his life, Donald dedicated himself to his craft as a master carpenter and was a proud member of Carpenters Union Local #1010 in Houston, Texas. However, beyond his career achievements, he will be most remembered for his selfless nature and willingness to always lend a helping to others.

Donald’s warm personality shone through in everything he did. He found joy in the simple things like cooking delicious meals and cherished the time spent with loved ones. Despite his aversion to cell phones, he embraced technology’s advancements graciously.

He is survived by his children Donna LaGrone (Jeff), Luther Whitmire, Debbie Whitmire, and Alton Whitmire; brothers Tolbert Whitmire, David Whitmire, and Harvey Whitmire; sisters Lola Blummer, Betty Whitmire, and Linda Hellbush; grandchildren Leslie Sturm, Nathan Hodges (Sierra), Ava Shelton, Devon Smith, Mariah Smith, Maranda Smith, and Alexis Smith; great-grandchildren Dallas Sturm, Liam Hodges, Layla Hodges, Xena Sturm, Kaiser Sturm; as well as a host of other loving family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Tolbert E. Whitmire and Dora E. Franks; brothers, Elbert Whitmire and Alton Whitmire; and sisters Helen Higgins and Ruby Weaver.

Services to honor and celebrate Donald’s life will be held at Neal Funeral Home on June 11, 2024. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. The interment will be at Morgan Cemetery in Cleveland at 12:00 PM.
