Tragic accident on SH 321 in Dayton results in fatality

Officers from the Dayton Police Department were dispatched to a serious accident at the intersection of SH 321 and CR 668 around 7:42 a.m. Monday, June 17.

The accident involved a trash truck owned by Frontier Waste Solutions and a 2004 Dodge pickup truck.

The trash truck, driven by Seth Simpkins, 41, of Crosby, Texas, was turning north onto SH 321 from CR 668 when it was struck by the Dodge pickup, which was traveling south on SH 321. The pickup was driven by 48-year-old Tamela Hinojosa from Highlands, Texas.

Tragically, the Highlands woman was pronounced deceased at the scene by Liberty County Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn. Her next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the Frontier Waste Solutions truck and his passenger refused medical treatment at the scene.

Officer Donnie McDaniel of the Dayton Police Department is leading the investigation into the crash.
