Lake Livingston storm prep repairs completed, lake level to be lowered for next round of repairs

Crews working on the dam on behalf of the Trinity River Authority ultimately poured almost 1,000 cubic yards of concrete to shield the stilling basin area.

The Trinity River Authority Lake Livingston Dam repairs slated for completion Monday, July 8, were completed and tested Sunday, July 7. The completed repairs were to ensure that the dam was ready for the potential heavy rainfall related to Hurricane Beryl. So far, about 4-5 inches of rain fell in the area.

In the event of additional rainfall, the dam is expected to perform as designed, managing potential high-flow events without compromising its integrity. Currently, 10 of the 12 dam gates are fully operational, with the remaining two gates scheduled to be back online in the fall.

An official statement from the TRA reads: “The Lake Livingston dam is intact. Repairs are in progress. The dam sustained damage during the recent heavy rain and flooding, and we are not able to assess the damage. There is no immediate danger of failure or breach of the dam.”

Day-to-day operations at the dam will continue as necessary. Gate operations may vary as conditions dictate. TRA says it will continue to monitor the status and issue updates as appropriate.

Lake Livingston is open as usual. Lake levels will be slowly lowered over the next few days. By July 15, the lake will be lowered by three feet to facilitate repairs.

Boat owners are advised to move their watercraft out of the water as a precaution. For the latest information on lake levels, please visit the TRA website at www.trinityra.org.
