The Valley Players of Liberty are pleased to announce an exciting weekend of theater with the presentation of two one-act plays on Aug. 3 and 4. One of the two featured plays will be “Bernice Bobs Her Hair,” a play written by D.D. Brooke and based on the iconic short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Set in a bustling 1920s social scene, “Bernice Bobs Her Hair” follows the journey of a young woman named Bernice. Initially seen as dull and socially awkward, Bernice undergoes a dramatic transformation, influenced by her cousin Marjorie. The tale delves into the complexities of popularity, peer pressure, and the drastic measures one might take to fit in. The climax of the story revolves around Bernice’s bold decision to bob her hair, a radical fashion statement at the time.

Directing this play for the Valley Players are Jaden West and Tori Duty.

The second play of the evening, “The Hairy Situation of Dr. Follicle,” written by Nolen Myers and Jaden West, offers a delightful contrast with its whimsical and comedic storyline. Set in a town where everyone is obsessed with beauty and beauty standards, the play follows the misadventures of Dr. Follicle, a well-meaning but misguided scientist.

Dr. Follicle is determined to find a cure for balding, a pursuit driven by the town’s obsession with physical appearance. However, his experiment takes a disastrous turn when his cure transforms him into a hairy monster. The once-respected doctor becomes a menace, attacking town residents in his uncontrollable, fur-covered state.

In an effort to save the town and Dr. Follicle himself, Detective Shearlock Combs steps in. Armed with his keen investigative skills and a sense of humor, Detective Combs must navigate the hairy situation and find a cure for Dr. Follicle’s monstrous transformation. The play is filled with laugh-out-loud moments, clever dialogue, and a message about the true nature of beauty.

The second play is directed by Nolan Myers and Lexi Dallas.

Show times are 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 4. The performances will be held in the Humphreys-Burson Theatre, 1710 Sam Houston Ave., Liberty. Tickets are $10 each.

  1. After seeing a random banner while reading news from Most Countries, I decided to take a gamble on a new hobby. I’ve always been a bit cautious about where I put my money, but the variety of poker rooms really stood out to me. Browsing through https://galactic-wins.com/ gave me a new perspective on how smooth these platforms can actually run. I started with a few losses, but a lucky streak on the weekend helped me recover everything and then some.
