The Trinity River Authority (TRA) is progressing with the ongoing improvements to the stilling basin located below the spillway of Lake Livingston Dam.
This critical infrastructure project, aimed at enhancing the dam’s safety and operational efficiency, has faced delays due to recent heavy summer rains, which have necessitated the opening of most spillway gates to manage the heightened water flows.
With water levels now under control, repairs have resumed. The primary focus is to address erosion issues directly below the spillway, which were exacerbated by the heavy spring rains.
To fortify the stilling basin, the repair work involves adding large quantities of rock and concrete to fix the damaged areas. Importantly, there has been no leakage from the dam or spillway.
TRA, along with its contractors and consultants, is employing advanced technology to ensure the effectiveness and safety of the repair efforts. Drones are being used for essential tasks such as surveying the site, monitoring dam conditions, overseeing repairs, and managing construction materials.

To further enhance safety around the project site, the Authority has requested the establishment of a Temporary Flight Restricted (TFR) area, which reinforces existing flight restrictions over critical infrastructure.
As of now, the water level of Lake Livingston stands at 131.28 feet, with a controlled release rate of 8,150 cubic feet per second.

When will Ya’ll begin Dredging the River it needs to be from the Dam to the mouth of Trinity Bay !!!
And as always, no downstream flood prevention is even on their radar.
They would not have implemented this “emergency” fix had it not been for the satellite images that told them about it sinking. So that is a big No on the river!
